National Olympiad Pathways
India runs a separate, more selective system of national Olympiads — conducted by HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education) and IAPT — that lead toward India's teams at international Mathematics and Science Olympiads. This is a genuinely different system from SOF's school-level Olympiads, not a "next level" of them.
How This Differs From SOF Olympiads
- Different organizers — HBCSE and IAPT, not the Science Olympiad Foundation.
- Different purpose — selecting India's team for an international Olympiad, not school-level enrichment.
- Different format — later stages are subjective and proof-based, not objective multiple-choice.
- No formal connection — a strong SOF result has no bearing on eligibility here, and vice versa.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from SOF's school Olympiads?
SOF's school Olympiads (IMO, ISO, IEO and others) are open exams taken through participating schools, aimed at enrichment across Classes 1–12. India's national Olympiad pathways are run by HBCSE and IAPT for a different purpose entirely — selecting India's teams for international Mathematics and Science Olympiads — and are considerably more selective and subjective in format from the second stage onward.
Do I need to take a SOF Olympiad before attempting a national pathway exam?
No. The two systems have no formal connection — a student can attempt IOQM or an NSE exam directly, without ever having appeared for a SOF Olympiad.
Is Tutors Parliament affiliated with HBCSE or IAPT?
No. Tutors Parliament is an independent educational platform providing preparation resources and tutor matching. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by HBCSE, IAPT or any examination organization.
