Online HSC Tutoring for Students in New South Wales

Verified tutors for NSW students working through the Higher School Certificate — matched to your child's actual Preliminary and HSC courses.

Tutoring for New South Wales students is currently offered online.

The Higher School Certificate (HSC) is the senior-secondary credential for students in New South Wales, set and awarded by NESA (the NSW Education Standards Authority). It covers Years 11 (the Preliminary course) and 12 (the HSC course), and is distinct from the Australian Curriculum, which governs Foundation–Year 10 nationally rather than Years 11–12 in any state.

What Is the HSC?

The HSC is awarded to NSW students who complete Stage 6 — the Preliminary course, usually studied across the first three terms of Year 11, followed by the HSC course in Year 12. Most subjects are worth 2 units, and students must complete a minimum pattern of study set by NESA, including at least 2 units of a Board Developed English course.

Each subject combines school-based internal assessment with NESA's external HSC examinations, and the specific weighting varies by subject. The ATAR — the rank universities use for admission — is calculated separately from a student's best HSC results; it is not the HSC itself.

Set by NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority).

How the HSC Is Structured

Most HSC subjects are 2-unit courses (1 unit representing roughly 60 hours of study per year), with some Extension courses available as an additional 1-unit add-on for higher-achieving students in a subject. Students must complete at least 10 units overall, including 6 units of Board Developed Courses and 2 units of English.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HSC?+
The Higher School Certificate (HSC) is the credential awarded to NSW students who complete Stage 6 (Years 11–12), set by NESA. It combines school-based assessment with external HSC examinations.
Is this certificate the same as the ATAR?+
No. The ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) is a nationally comparable university-entrance rank calculated from a student's senior results — it is not itself a curriculum, certificate, or exam. Not every subject or pathway within this certificate contributes to an ATAR.
Can students get online HSC subject support?+
Yes — Tutors Parliament matches NSW students with tutors for their actual Preliminary or HSC courses in subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Computer Science.
Is home tutoring available for this pathway?+
No — tutoring in Australia is currently offered online only, the same as every Tutors Parliament market outside India. Sessions are scheduled around the student's local time.
Does Tutors Parliament provide subject-specific mock exams or an assessment bank for this certificate?+
Not yet at this certificate's own subject/module level. Tutors Parliament's current online assessment library is organised mainly by Classes 6–12, reflecting Indian boards — ask your matched tutor for course-specific practice guidance in the meantime.
Is Tutors Parliament affiliated with NESA (the NSW Education Standards Authority)?+
No. Tutors Parliament is an independent online tutoring provider and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official examination centre for NESA (the NSW Education Standards Authority), or any school in Australia.
